DO:
Keep a clear separation between bacteria and non-bacteria work areas.
Change or sanitize gloves before moving to a non-bacteria area.
DON’T:
Don’t bring large-volume bacterial work upstairs.
Don’t use communal equipment or reagents for bacterial work.
Don’t leave Chemgene or Virkon solutions on the bench overnight — 30 min is enough to disinfect.
DO:
Clean up after yourself after finishing experiments.
Wash glassware after use — don’t leave it for others.
Clean the balance after each use.
Empty the general waste bin when it’s full.
Refill ethanol, IPA, and water bottles by the sink when they’re low.
Top up the sonicator bath with MQ water if the level is low.
DON’T:
Don’t leave used glassware or spatulas in the sink.
Don’t keep expired or unneeded samples in the fridge or freezer — throw them away.
DO:
Wear PPE (lab coat, gloves, goggles) at all times in the lab.
DON’T:
Don’t wear both gloves in the corridor.
Don’t touch door handles or shared surfaces with gloves on.
Don’t throw used gloves in the normal bin — use the appropriate waste.
DO:
Check and switch off all equipment (microscope, heat block, gas, pump, etc.) before leaving.
Make sure fridges and freezers are properly closed.
Order consumables and chemicals when stock is low.
DON’T:
Don’t change spin coater (Dynamic 3) settings without asking for permission.
DO:
Dispose of samples you no longer need.
Keep the fume hood clear and sash closed (when not in use)
