Before starting lab work
Everyone must read and understand the general lab risk assessments here. Don't forget to sign the hardcopies in the yellow folder!
Are you going to work with lasers?
Follow the instructions in this tab to get set up to use the microscopes.
Are you going to do biological stuff?
Follow the instructions in this tab to get set up to do biological work. If there is not a relevant CoBRA, COSHH or risk assessment then you MUST create one before stating work. If in doubt, talk to Mark, Eve or Vicky.
Not sure if a substance is safe to use in our ductless fume hood?
Check the Chemical Guide for compatibility with our filter (code H), or fill in a FiltraCheck online form.

Planning out-of-hours work?
Please avoid working alone, especially for Master's and first-year PhD students who do not have access to the building and need to be supervised.
A weekend work form needs to be filled and submitted (before 3 pm, Friday) and signed off by both the tech team and your supervisor. You will receive two emails after the form has been sent to the tech team and signed off by the supervisor.

Some instructions on filling out the form: The form requires some basic information such as your email address and the room number you plan to work in. A risk assessment code is also required, which you can find from the risk assessment form corresponding to the experiments you plan to conduct (Risk Assessments ). It is the first line on the form, named RISK ASSESSMENT NUMBER (in this format: for example MIW_012).
